Lunettes Kollektion Trunk Show at Selima Optique SoHo

Here’s a look back at the recent trunk show hosted by Selima Optique SoHo, highlighting the latest Lunettes Kollektion pieces. Our flagship store, which caters to clients from all over town, and particularly from SoHo and TriBeCa, was the first eyewear store to introduce this Berlin-based luxury maker of beautiful eyeglasses to the United States.
It was an afternoon/evening of “eyewear craftsmanship, bubbles and macaroons,” and a chance for Selima Optique SoHo customers to meet Daniela, who came over from Berlin to show the Lunettes Kollektion.

Selima Optique: Hand Made in France (A Peek in Our Workshops)

To us,’ luxury’ means taking the time, and investing in the labor, that is needed to handcraft our collection.

Luxury to us does not mean ostentatious logos and giant publicity budgets. We like to know that each Selima Optique frame is made by people we’ve worked with for for years, decades even. These craftsmen start with a little piece of acetate and, in the end, after a lot of work, deliver a pair of frames. Everything, from the shaping of the front and the temples, to putting those elements together with the hardware, and buffing - frequently, in the case of multicolored designs, even in sculptural shapes to reveal all the layers of acetate - and polishing, is dome by hand.

The first image shows a finished frame in the middle of the tools involved. The lenses are already in place because that’s how we like to judge samples when we visit the workshop.

The remainder of the images give you a further idea of the incredible manual labor involved in each pair of Selima Optique sunglasses or optical frames. Doesn’t knowing that make it even more fun to buy your next pair?

We work with several small workshops/factories in France, all of which are dedicated to manual craftsmanship. The images here were taken in the place that fulfills our custom orders (such as special pieces in buffalo horn), which is run by Anne Dorilla. Next time we go to the other workshops to proof the new samples, we’ll take tons more pictures to show you what goes on there.

September Pin Up (Girls love Arni)

Even though Arni is  - like many Selima Optique frames - a unisex style, it is the women who have slowly but surely made Arni into a Selima Optique classic, epitomizing ‘Sexy Smart’. Case in point: Anne Hathaway, who has been photographed wearing her Arni on various occasions. Or check out Karen, one of our favorite Instagram muses here and here.

New York Fashion Week Round-Up / Spring Summer 2015 Ready to Wear

New York Fashion Week, the Spring/Summer 2015 Ready to Wear edition, is over, and the Fashion Week baton has been passed to London. Time for us to present you with you a little (edited) round-up of Selima Optique appearances on the SS15 Runway. Three labels/designers we love madly had their stylists pull from our current and past styles - and we love what they did!

First up: WHIT

Whitney Pozgay founded WHIT in 2014, with her husband and partner Parker Argote. They were selected to participate in the CFDA’s Fashion Incubator program, which they recently completed.
For WHIT’s SS15 collection, a variety of Selima Optique frames were used, and several of them are vintage Selima (1990′s - we’re getting old!). Our Jacqueline, however, is in the current collection.

Next up: Orley

Brothers Matthew and Alex Orley, and Matthew’s wife Samantha launched this luxury menswear brand in 2012. This was the second time we worked with Orley on their presentation, and for this season we customized our Nicolas with gold mirror lenses. Such a great effect, on both the Sky Blue and the Beige Peppermint Nicolas.

Last, but not Least: Erin Fetherston
Erin is another Selima Optique friend, with whom we’ve worked on presentations before, most recently on FW14. Erin first showed in 2005, during the Paris Haute Couture Shows, no less.  Her  choice for this particlar show was our Anouk in White, with black lenses.

June Ambrose Making the NYFW SS15 Rounds

June, Selima Optique friend and co-creator of the Selima Optique x June Ambrose line of sunglasses, is hopping from show to show - seeing friends, getting snapped, taking selfies, and wearing a variety of eyewear from our collaboration. Since New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2015 is in full swing at the time of writing, we’re anticipating many, many more June sightings - which means an update will follow! If you follow us  @selimaoptique or June @JuneAmbrose on Instagram, you can keep track of more or less real-time sightings.

The popular Missy is currently available in Black and in Blue Floral

Elsbeth Struijk van Bergen: Selima Optique x Colette: A Special Andy

A series of portraits by photographer Elsbeth Struijk van Bergen, created at the occasion of the launch of Selima Optique x Colette, now bundled and uploaded to our >issuu< page (click to go there).

This exclusive collection of Selima Optique’s classic optical Andy frame consists of seven colors, inspired by the sights and sounds of New York City in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s -think “when Disco met New Wave”, but translated into eyewear!

Selia Optique x Colette

The design of the frame itself, a mainstay and bestseller in the Selima Optique collection, was inspired by the King of Pop Art himself; Warhol.

Selima Optique x Colette is hand made in France of high quality crystal acetate. The UV400 lenses were custom tinted to match the frames, and are meant for indoor/outdoor, daytime/nighttime use.

A ‘Thank You’ to the models: Dinu, Jeroen, Shanti, and Sophie.

Photographer Alexander Berg’s Series of Portraits (a Look Book of sorts) for Selima Optique

Alexander Berg’s series of portraits for Selima Optique is on >ISSUU.COM< in its entirety.

The continuation of a Selima Optique tradition that started in the 90′s - and which reflects Selima Salaun’s love for photography. Selima gave NY-based photographer Alexander Berg a modest selection of Selima Optique releases from the recent past, and he was then given carte blanche to shoot them as he pleased.  So he portrayed friends and acquaintances. All the frames in Alex’ series are part of our current collection.

Selima Salaun and Selima Optique in ELLE Japan after Selima’s Tokyo Trunk Show

When Selima Optique Founder and Creative Director, Selima Salaun, recently traveled to Tokyo to host a trunk show, ELLE Japan took notice.  Selima was interviewed about the design process and about the collection of sunglasses and optical frames she was presenting. Right after the interview ran on, the September 2014 issue came out. Our Maya frame got a full page, as worn by Elite Model Look Hungary winner Alma Baczay. The photographer is Yasutomo Ebisu.
