Last year we hosted a Pop Up with EriN Design at our Soho Store . It was such a hit that we decided to do a month long pop up, with Eriko making weekend appearances with her unique, enchanting floral designs at each of our NYC Selima Optique boutiques. 

This year Eriko kicked off her holiday residency at our new Gramercy boutique, Selima Optique Reading Room, then on to Madison avenue, Soho, West Village and finally Bon 07.  Her deep love of nature and fashion inspire her one of a kind floral structures giving her handmade wreaths, garlands, ornaments, and floral frames a modern artistic elegance which was just perfect for the season.

             After knowing each other for years we finally decided to join forces with our clever, funny, friend, not to mention super talented artist, Ferdinand Van Alphen of  Ferdinand.Ink . Ferdinand’s work will be on display at our Bond 07 Boutique now through January 2019. 

            Not only will we be featuring original works of art, prints, dish towels and dishes by Ferdinand but notebooks featuring his original artwork as well as a limited number of hand-painted Selima Optique canvas totes at our select NYC stores. (between Broadway and Lafayette) and find yourself an original piece that tickles your fancy for yourself or a loved one because we could all use a little more laughter in our lives these days!

                  Runway 27  is a student-run organization that produces a fashion show each year based around an original theme featuring original designs and creations from the students themselves combined with designer clothing and accessories. This year’s theme was “Twisted”. The show took place last Thursday November 15th at the FIT’s Half Auditorium.  Check out some of their awesome looks featuring some of our frames.  

      This past Thursday, we popped some bottles to celebrate the opening of  Selima Optique Gramercy, an adorable, carefully curated boutique focusing primarily on our namesake eyewear collection with select vintage frames and specialty gift items such as cards and notebooks. Sharing a block with Bar Jamón, Casa Mono, Takamichi Beauty Room and the famously unmarked Inn At Irving Place, we instantly felt right at home this a very special New York neighborhood.

     Selima Optique Gramercy is located in Manhattan’s historic Gramercy neighborhood on 17th st. and Irving Place, named after Washington Irving , author of such works as, to name a few, Sleepy Hollow and Rip Van Winkle. The neighborhood is home to the infamous Gramercy Park , one of two private parks located in NYC. Members of a few exclusive clubs, religious establishments, guests of the Gramercy Park Hotel , and local residents who wish to pay the annual assessment fee are the only key holders to the park.  If you’re wandering around the area and looking to get a bite to eat or something to drink there are a few great places nearby. The Michelin Star sister restaurants Casa Mono and Bar Jamon are located just next door to the shop offering restaurant fare, wine, and tapas. If you’re more on the market for fancy libations swing by The Inn at Irving Place just around the corner, home to Cibar and Lady Mendi’s Tea Salon . Cibar, located in the basement of the Inn, is the place to go for cocktails and snacks but if you’ve got a little more time to kill, and looking for something a little less boozy, check out Lady Mendi’s 5-course tea service.

                 Being the animal advocate that she is it was only natural Selima would host the afterparty for the cutting edge documentary The End of Meat. 

                The film explores what living in a post-meat world would look like and how it would affect the animals, environment, and ourselves. 

The screening, held at   Angelika Film Center , was followed by a Q&A moderated by Donny Moss of TheirTurn   featuring the filmmaker, Marc Pierschel , and special guests. 

              Afterward, viewers made their way over to Selima Optique’s Bond 07 boutique for some drinks and vegan bites from Screamer’s Pizzeria ,  Marty’s V Burger , Brooklyn Whiskers , Petal Sparkling Botanicals   and   Brew Dr. Kombucha .

        Since 2014 the edCFDA has been doing their part to support FTBC through their capsule collection of limited edition Frames for a Cause, available at select retailers, and feature the FTBC’s signature blue and white colors. Proceeds from the sales of these frames go toward the CFDA’s charitable foundation which raises funds and public awareness for breast cancer around the world.
